Tara Brendle is a professor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. After receiving her PhD from Columbia University, she was a VIGRE Assistant Professor at Cornell University and an Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University before moving to Glasgow in 2008. 

Her work is in geometric group theory, an area that lies in the intersection of algebra and low-dimensional topology.  Tara was an EDGE mentor for four years, from its inception year in 1998 until 2001, and has since returned as an instructor to continue to support underrepresented students. Tara currently serves as the President-Elect of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society (the national society for mathematics in Scotland).  In 2021 she was awarded the Senior Whitehead Prize by the London Mathematical Society, becoming the second woman to receive this prize since its inception in the 1970s.
