Evelyn Boyd Granville died at the age of 99 on June 27, 2023. Granville was the second African American woman in the United States to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics.

Granville overcame racial adversity, among many systemic challenges, and rose up to significantly contribute to NASA’s early programs, such as Apollo and Mercury. After working for IBM and collaborating with NASA, Granville had a lifelong career in education and was a fierce advocate for equitable STEM education.

Her impact on science, STEM education and society as a whole will be remembered by future generations.
